5⭐️ I absolutely loved this This was such an unexpected read for me. It’s much higher fantasy than what I normally read. A lot of political intrigue, world-building, etc. I was lightly confused at all times

Literally, how does this book get away with being so good?! Red Rising vibes, but somehow a completely separate sort of story. I love the MC for being not another “omg I never knew I was perfect at everything” repeat. The story hooked me. It was absolutely impossible to put down. And the ENDING! Holyyyyy cow. Out of nowhere. I can’t say enough good. Absolute banger.

This wasn’t a hard read but it did take me a while to get through it. Probably cause I was really intrigued with the world and I guess magic system (is this fantasy?! Probably it was hard describing the genre to someone), and tbh I didn’t want it to end. But holy smokes was this a wild ride with twist and turns, questioning everyone’s motives (don’t be suspicious don’t be suspicious), heart break (IYKYK), and so much more. It hard to say how I felt about the MMC he was fine overall insufferable in moments, but he is also young so it tracks. I really loved his internal dialogue, and the growth he made as a character and figuring out himself and what he wanted. I wanted to put this one off as long as possibly because book 2 isn’t out yet. Gave me Red Rising, maybe a little Hunger Games, and some dark academia vibes. I’ll de be reading it again. I felt like the pacing was off throughout much of the book. Things speed up then die down. Or the passage of time is super abrupt in moments. I thought there were high stakes at every twist and turn, but always with a gut feeling that the MC would always come up on top so do with that what you will.
