I wasn’t even sure what to rate this because I have such mixed feelings, so we’re settling for a 3⭐️ for now.
I tried to read this book last year and hard dnf’d at 150 pages and told everyone who would listen how much I loathed this book. One of my friends that I trust a lot with book recs told me to just get to page 200 before making a decision (which…why do you need 200 pages to hook me?? Wild)
Anyway, I picked it back up this week, and I will say once it got past the 200 mark the characters suddenly became less insufferable and the plot actually started to develop. Still very very confused why this book was over 600 pages long. Incredibly unnecessary, and it’s obvious it needed some severe editing down. A lot of the convos and inner monologues were WAY too dragged out and extremely repetitive!!! And don’t get me started on the near constant need to talk about how tiny Shannon like the river is. I got it. We got it. Everyone got it. I am begging the editors to fix stuff like this in future books
