I have a love/hate relationship with this book. I liked the idea of the story and loved the setting. I’m a sucker for small mountain town romances AND grumpy x sunshine. However, this book had a lot of problems for me. I will say it has a lot of sweet and deep quotable moments and lines. The MMC is a quiet but STEADY man in a way that you don’t see in a lot of books. He takes care of those around him and offers so much reassurance and thoughtfulness. I also appreciated that the book touches on grief really beautifully.
Some of my biggest problems were:
-The writing was super repetitive at times. Phrases and words would be repeated back to back within a few pages.
-This book was entirely too long. 608 pages for a romance is a bit much.
-This is a sllllllooooooowwwwwww burn. They don’t even acknowledge they might *like* each other until 400+ pages in.
-The romance honestly just didn’t hit for me. It felt kind of odd. The FMC gives very young girl energy even though she’s supposed to be 33 (which is okay, I’m young at heart too). But the MMC is 42 and acts completely his age. A lot of their relationship is him almost being fatherly towards her. While I kind of love that, something about it just didn’t hit right for me in this book.
Overall, it was okay! Does this author have other books that are better? This is my first by her, but I am open to trying another.
