I took a little break in the middle of this book to get some other things read, so it was quite a slow read for me Definitely much slower than it’s predecessor, The Well of Ascension is a highly character driven book, as compared to the plot heavy story of The Final Empire. It makes sense. After the excitement of a rebellion dies down, there’s time for the characters to switch their focus from external to internal. Some characters become even more likable to me (Elend, Sazed) while some characters became increasingly more frustrating (Vin), but I feel as though I know & understand them all much better after the second installment. Watching Elend start from the bottom to become the leader he needs to be in contrast to watching Vin start at the top & question why she was there was just the brilliant storytelling I’ve come to expect from Mr. Sanderson. It was also had some pretty big twists! One I saw coming; the other I did not at all. With this being a spoiler-free review, I’ll refrain from speaking further on these. I am excited to move on to the last (& best reviewed) book of the trilogy to tie up some loose ends & see how this story ends! I can’t remember the last time I loved a book series this much!
