This book followed a similar path to the second entry of era 1, The Well of Ascension. Although, in my opinion, this was more impressive. I don’t mean that it’s a better book apples to apples, but more of an improvement as a follow up to their predecessors. (Granted, this one did have much less competition.) Mystery, mistrust, & twists. Brandon Sanderson once again follows every step for a perfect crime thriller set in a steampunk fantasy world. With even more callbacks to the original books (but still not enough to be overkill), I had a hard time putting this one down! Every chapter gave new revelation that begged me to keep reading. A definite improvement over its predecessor, it took the more lighthearted & fun character-driven story & gave it a real gut punch that just felt necessary. I definitely recommend this book, but prepare your heart for it.
