My all time favorite series, writer, & top two favorite artist, so I’m a little biased.
The penultimate volume of the series is made to set up the finale &, oh boy, does it do just that!
I haven’t been that fond of be new class of student d as compared to the likes of Billy, Willie, & co. But this volume finally pulled me in on that.
I always have a lot of confusion because of the months j take between volumes, but Deadly Class somehow always catches me up & delivers.
Reminder delivery is usual teen angst in all its unedited, brash goodness!
Craig has grown into one of my favorite artists. The way the panels can give me the feel of a scene & have me emotionally in the room with them is a true testament to the artform.
And Loughridge shows why the colorist is the cinematographer of comics. Boyd was great, but Loughridge’s work on this series continues being elite.
This volume has properly prepared me for the final arc. I plan to reread the entire series going into it, just to make sure the emotional impact is accurate!
Edit for second reading:
Having read the entire series in just a couple days in preparation to read the finale, I do understand this story much better with it fresh in my mind.
The timejumps were jarring, but a part of my has always liked that little trick. Seeing where someone ended up without having seen the progression has so much potential in a story. It looks to me like the final arc is going to live up to the hype built up by the series so far!
